Privacy Policy

PlyCount, by Jamie Tippett. Effective October 12, 2026.

PlyCount is an independent iPhone app for Ravelry. This policy says what the app does with your information. In short: PlyCount does not collect your personal information, does not run ads, and does not track you.

What I collect

Nothing. PlyCount has no accounts, no analytics, no crash-reporting service and no advertising. I do not operate a server that receives your data, and I never see your Ravelry password, your projects, your stash or your searches.

Signing in

You sign in on Ravelry's own sign-in page. PlyCount receives a sign-in token from Ravelry instead of your password. The token is stored in your device's Keychain and is removed when you sign out. Some features (for example commenting or purchases) ask for an extra permission from Ravelry the first time you use them. You can turn those features off in Settings, which removes their permission from your device.

Information that goes to Ravelry

PlyCount talks directly to Ravelry on your behalf. When you use the app, it sends Ravelry what is needed to do what you asked: your searches, and anything you create or change, such as projects, stash entries, queue entries, notes, comments, favorites and photos you choose to upload. Ravelry handles that information under Ravelry's Privacy Policy. Pages you open in the app's built-in browser are Ravelry pages and are covered by Ravelry's policy too.

Location

If you tap "Near me" when searching for local yarn stores, PlyCount asks for your location while the app is open. Your coordinates are sent to Ravelry for that search so it can return nearby shops. They are not saved by PlyCount. If you type an address instead, your device's mapping service turns it into coordinates for the same search. PlyCount never uses your location in the background.

Photos and files

PlyCount can see only the photos you pick and the files you choose to import. Photos you add to a project or stash entry are uploaded to Ravelry. PDFs you import, and your notes and highlights on them, stay on your device.

What stays on your device

PlyCount keeps some information only on your device: your sign-in token, your saved searches, your sort and display settings, and pattern PDFs you downloaded or imported. Deleting the app removes it. Your Ravelry data stays on Ravelry until you delete it there.

Tips

The app is free. An optional tip can be left inside the app. Tips are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. I receive sales reports from Apple but never your payment details or identity, and PlyCount does not unlock features in return for a tip.

Children

PlyCount is not directed at children. It works only through a Ravelry account, and Ravelry's own age rules apply.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
